“Dr. Maria J. Hankerson Day” Proclaimed in the District of Columbia
Proclamation by the Mayor of Washington DC
Washington, DC, July 1, 2017 —The Honorable Muriel E. Bowser proclaimed July 1, 2017 as “Dr. Maria J. Hankerson Day” in the District of Columbia. The Proclamation reads as follows:
“WHEREAS, Dr. Hankerson’s illustrious career began at the University of the District of Columbia, where she served as a staff counselor and as Director in the Division of Student Affairs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hankerson served as the Special Assistant to The White House Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Executive Office of the President; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hankerson started her business Systems Assessment & Research, Incl (SAR), to focus on culturally diverse health care services in this city and in 1993, designed and operated specialty and public health clinics in Ward 1 – The Hope for Families Center, and The Center for Health and Wellness; and
WHEREAS, as a successful entrepreneur, Dr. Maria J. Hankerson provided 24-hour nursing services to the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, DC Jail and St. Elizabeths Hospital; and
WHEREAS, we join in this birthday celebration and thank Dr. Maria J. for her contributions that have helped enhance the quality of life of so many others;
NOW THEREFORE, I, THE MAYOR OF WASHINGTON DC, do hereby proclaim July 1, 2017 in Washington, Dc, as “DR. MARIA J. HANKERSON DAY” and call upon all the residents of this great city to join me in wishing her a very
